Former U.S. presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on Friday endorsed Kari Lake in her campaign to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate. Ramaswamy predicted Lake’s election will be instrumental to securing the southern border and lauded her ability to “hold the media accountable.”
Ramaswamy endorsed Lake in a video posted to X, the website formerly known as Twitter.
“The slogan of my campaign was ‘Truth.’ That means I am going to support people who are willing to speak hard truths that other Republicans aren’t,” said Ramaswamy, adding that “Kari Lake is one of those fearless Republicans, and that’s why I’m going to endorse her for candidacy for U.S. Senate, and I do expect her to be the next U.S. Senator from the State of Arizona.”
Ramaswamy, who dropped out of the Republican race for president and endorsed former President Donald Trump after losing the Iowa caucuses, said his endorsement of Lake is informed by her stance on the southern border, calling it “a nonpartisan issue right now.”
The former Republican presidential candidate said, “This isn’t about Republicans versus democrats, and the people who try to make it into that are the ones who have a vested interest in continuing this crisis.”
Proud to announce my endorsement of @KariLake for Senate. She’s an outsider. She’s America-First. She’s all-in for sealing the border. She knows how to *eviscerate* the media. She’s unafraid. And she’s going to a dominant U.S. Senator.🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/pJUhx3QxZK

“Kari Lake has been somebody who is unafraid to speak out about it, and I think she is going to be one of the toughest senators we have on making sure that we seal that southern border without apologizing or without compromising on our principles,” said Ramaswamy.
He then turned to Lake’s previous career as a broadcast news journalist in Arizona, which he said gives her a unique ability to “torture” her former colleagues.
“The other thing I love about Kari, one of the things I tried to do in the campaign was to stick it to the media,” Ramaswamy explained. “Kari grew up from within that establishment, she was a newswoman but she wasn’t part of it. She was always somebody that challenged that status quo, and then when she left, boy does she know how to torture them, and that’s exactly what she’s done. I love that about her.”
“I promise I’m not endorsing her just because I have fun watching her,” the former presidential candidate stated, before adding, “it’s a nice plus to have.”
He said, “The media is supposed to hold the government accountable, they don’t do that anymore. Well, if they’re not doing that, who is holding the media accountable? It’s going to be the likes of leaders like Kari Lake.”
Ramaswamy concluded his endorsement by declaring Lake and her candidacy are evidence the movement launched by Trump in 2016 will last hundreds of years.
“This is part of a broader America First movement that’s going to live, not just for the next four years,” Ramaswamy insisted. “It’s going to succeed in the next four years, but [last] for the next 250 years and then some after that. That’s what this is about.”
Ramaswamy’s endorsement is the first high-profile endorsement of Lake since the release of an audio recording that featured former Arizona Republican Party (AZGOP) Chair Jeff DeWit relaying an offer from “Back East” for Lake to receive a well-paying job in the private sector in exchange for staying out of politics. DeWit resigned after the audio surfaced.
Lake confirmed on Thursday that she recorded the audio, and further elaborated that it was released after she listened to the recording with her daughter and husband.
After DeWit resigned, Trump canceled a planned trip to Arizona, citing his ongoing court cases, and the AZGOP canceled the event affiliated with Trump’s appearance.
